What is Molluscum Contagiosum Virus?
Molluscum contagiosum or MCV is a version of the virus, which originates from the poxvirus family. It is a viral infection that is highly contagious and it can be passed on by skin-to-skin contact. Touching items that have been contaminated by the virus can also infect individuals. For example by sharing towels, flannels or soft toys. Once an area is affected the rash can be spread to other areas of the skin. Most people are resilient to the virus and it is mostly children who develop the virus between the ages of two and five.
