How to treat Molluscum Contagiosum?
Cryotherapy is a possible form of treatment, using liquid nitrogen to freeze the bump. This treatment is commonly used by doctors and dermatologists to treat molluscum contagiosum. Unfortunately, it is only effective against a few specific bumps. The liquid nitrogen is applied directly onto a bump to freeze it and kill the virus inside each bump.
A more effective treatment is Advanced Electrolysis. This treatment involves inserting a very fine hair like needle into the mollusc. A small electric current is sent through the mollusc, which causes it to immediately ‘pop’ and disperse. A qualified practitioner must only ever carry out this treatment.
As this condition predominantly affects children, it is recommended that the virus be left to run its course.
However, if the molluscum are causing extreme distress or discomfort they can be removed by a qualified practitioner under the supervision of a Paediatric Nurse in a Care Quality Commission Medical Centre.
Only in extenuating circumstances would Absolute Aesthetics consider undertaking the treatment on a small child.
